How do we get cavities
The outside covering of our teeth, called the enamel, is made of mineral salts
like Calcium. Certain types of bacteria attach themselves to the enamel. Unless they're
washed away, the bacteria start building up in numbers. They mix with saliva and food
to form plaque, which produces acid. The mineral salts dissolve under this acid attack,
making the enamel porous. Over time this causes holes (or cavities) in our teeth.
